Who was the first female governor of Gilgit Baltistan?

In August 2009, the status of Gilgit Baltistan was changed to a semi-provincial status through a constitutional order. Before that the area was administered separately and has never played a role in Pakistan’s politics.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Order 2009, gave people the right to have a legislative assembly and council. All the necessary steps with the installation of a legislative assembly and a provincial government structure were taken immediately after the amendment.
The first governor was Qamar Zaman Kaira however the first female governor of Gilgit Baltistan was Shama Khalid. She served in the office from 23 March 2010 – 15 September 2010.
Who was Shama Khalid?
Born in Astore Valley of Gilgit Baltistan, Shama Khalid was the daughter of Wazir Ashraf Khan, who himself was a law graduate from the famous Aligarh University. She completed her MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) in 1968 from Peshawar and became the first ever woman medical doctor of the region.

She worked for twenty (20) years in the ministry of population. During that period she not only regularly organized medical camps in the area but also carried out many other social works in the region. She also worked for some prominent social and welfare organizations, like “Save the Children”.
Shama Khalid became the 2nd governor of Gilgit Baltistant after Qamar Zaman Kaira. She took oath on 23rd March 2010 and remained in the office till 15 September 2010. She was succeeded by Mir Wazir Baig, a Pakistani politician from Gilgit Baltistan region.
Shama Khalid was a political worker of the Pakistan’s People Party (PPP). She is also believed to be the first woman from Gilgit Baltistan region to become a medical doctor.
Death
On 16 September 2010, at the age of 60, Shama Khalid passed away. She died of cancer.
